Alvin Radeka · Software Engineer & Engineering Manager

I build backend platforms, and the teams behind them.

Senior software engineer, full-stack capable but deepest in backend and platform work, and engineering manager. Eight years across payments, e-commerce, health, and logistics. Based in Jakarta (UTC+7), working remote and flexible across time zones.

Senior Software Engineer · Tokopedia · 2018–20

The subscription turnaround

3–4×
daily payment success
0
internal server errors after
85%
test coverage
Context
Tokopedia’s subscription product put recurring bills on autopilot, an intern-built MVP doing real production work: 4–5k transactions a day for tens of thousands of users.
Problem
Almost 90% of daily transactions failed: system errors, expired cards, empty wallets.
What I did
Rebuilt the system end to end with frontend and design; eliminated internal server errors with systematic retries; integrated OVO as it became Tokopedia’s primary wallet; shipped payment-expiry notifications and top-up nudges.
Outcome
Daily success rose from under 10% to 30–40%. Promoted to Senior.

What I’d tell you about this one: the first fix wasn’t code. It was making the metric honest. A success counts once; a failure counts only after every retry is spent.

Technical Advisor · AnekaPay · 2024–25

The migration that halved the bill

14→6
services consolidated
~55%
est. infra cost cut
5
engineers mentored through it
Context
AnekaPay runs digital-product payments for kiosk agents, a lean operation where every server dollar counts.
Problem
Fourteen Node.js + MongoDB microservices: costly to run, and an untyped codebase that kept producing preventable bugs.
What I did
Designed and led the migration to Go + MySQL (architecture, migration strategy, business continuity, disaster recovery) while mentoring the five engineers who run the platform.
Outcome
Six services doing the same work, estimated infrastructure cost roughly halved, and whole classes of runtime bugs gone with the type system.

What I’d tell you about this one: the cost figure is an estimate, and I’ll happily show the math. AnekaPay has retained me as an advisor across multiple years. That trust is the real outcome.

Engineering Manager · Delos Aqua · 2022–24

The org build

3→25
engineers, across multiple teams
0
review complaints in 2 years
0
tech debt left behind
Context
Delos Aqua builds farm-management software, IoT sensing, and ML-driven recommendations for enterprise shrimp farmers.
Problem
Three core engineers, and a product roadmap that needed a real engineering organisation behind it.
What I did
Built the org to 25: hiring, structure (three leads and a principal), and a culture of autonomy. Plus a metrics-driven review framework with transparent dashboards.
Outcome
Predictable delivery through buffers and milestones, reviews that never surprised anyone, and a platform with zero tech debt at the end.

What I’d tell you about this one: metrics never replaced judgment. They made the judgment defensible. Everyone could see their own dashboard, so review day held no surprises.

How I work

Claims you can audit.

Every number I put on the table survives a skeptical retelling. If it’s an estimate, I’ll show you the math.

Migrations without the drama.

High-stakes rebuilds ship behind a real cutover plan: business continuity and disaster recovery, not a big-bang weekend.

Teams that outlast me.

I’ve grown orgs from a handful to 25, and I leave them with transparent metrics, low tech debt, and people ready to lead.

AI-forward, fundamentals-first.

I bring AI into the workflow on a base that still rewards typed languages, real tests, and observability you can trust at 3am.

Two ways to work with me

Contract & fractional

Work with me

  • Backend & platform engineering: a drop-in senior IC for services, APIs, and the infrastructure underneath
  • Architecture & migration leadership: high-stakes rebuilds with a real cutover plan
  • Fractional engineering management: while you hire, or instead of hiring full-time

Employment

Hire me

  • Senior individual contributor: backend & platform, full-stack capable
  • Engineering manager: teams of 5 to 25, from hiring to performance frameworks
